Water, mountains, sunshine: Colico!

The town of Colico on Lake Como in Lombardy has the right atmosphere all kinds of holidaymakers.

Villas, country houses and old farmhouses are even more breath-taking in combination with the magnificent landscapes of Lake Como and the Montecchio Hills. The former fishing village of Colico is not only picturesquely located on the north-eastern shores of Lake Como, but is also at the foot of the lake's highest mountain. Thanks to its beautiful, south-west facing location, the town (which is 76km north of Milan) enjoys an incomparably warm, thoroughly mild climate.

Visits to Forte Fuentes, Piona Abbey or Forte Mintecchio Nord are a must during your holiday on Lake Como! The numerous churches await visitors in all their historic glory, such as the San Rocco Curch at the foot of Monte Legone. In the Cistercian Abbey, L'Abbazia die Piona on the Olgiasca Peninsula, the monks sell the abbey's own products. In addition, the peninsula is home to one of the finest bays for bathin in Colico!

However, whether you're looking for sunbathing, water sports, sightseeing or hiking, at the end of the day all holidaymakers should spoil themselves with the regional cuisine. Why not try a freshly-caught trout with delicacies from the weekly market, which takes place every friday monring, home-cooked in your holiday apartment or in one of the rocky caves known as Crotti; or how about enjoying one of the local specialities, accompanied by a light glass of wine, in one of the many restaurants on Piazza Garibaldi while you take advantage of the wonderfully mild climate. You're guaranteed to leave Colico refreshed, both in body and in spirit.
